Jury Duty

A couple of weeks ago I received a letter in the mail at my parents house informing me that I was selected to do jury duty from May 9th to the 13th. Sorry Thurston County, I'll be in Maui...on my honeymoon! Thankfully, they understood.

The Funniest Thing We've Done

I just remembered the funniest thing that Angie and I have ever done. At the bridal shower on Sunday, Carlene played a tape of me answering some questions about Angie and she asked the question "what's the craziest thing you've ever done together?" I had a hard time thinking of a solid answer that I would like to share (I thought of a few that I didn't want to share) so I ended up talking about the time we ate some tacos from a taco stand on the streets of Progresso, Mexico. This doesn't sound very crazy but we later learned what a major risk we took from some area residents.

However, I think the funniest thing that we ever did and maybe the craziest was actually in Windsor, Ontario. When I was living in Bowling Green we took a trip to Detroit and drove over the border just for the heck of it. We were driving around and suddenly I saw a huge sign on a telephone pole that read "McGillicudy's Corned Beef Giveaway Weekend - March 16, 17, 18" with a picture of a cow in the middle. We began laughing at it immediately and I started joking around about how much I wanted that sign. There's nothing I like more than a corned beef giveaway weekend on my birthday.

So as we got closer and closer to the sign I realized that we were going to have to stop at a light right in front of it. I joked that she should jump out and get it but I never really thought that she would. The road we were on was the major road from the USA and went through a very busy part of town, so stealing this sign seemed kind of risky even if it was an week old advertisement. But as soon as we stopped Angie jumped out of the car and ran over to the pole and pulled it right off, scampered back and shoved it in the back seat.

I couldn't stop laughing. I was so surprised to see her just jump out and pull it off the pole! I drove off partially unable to control myself and finally had to pull over and calm down. Not only was I laughing but I had that sickening feeling you sometimes get when you do something stupid and think about it being reported in the newspaper. I could see it so clearly..."the Royal Mounted Police arrested Brandon Sparks and Angie Hunter of the USA for stealing a corned beef giveaway weekend sign. They have been sentenced to life and will be shipped off to the Yukon labor camps for the rest of their sorry lives." Luckily we didn't get stopped by customs coming back over the border, that would have been a hard one to declare.

We still have that sign somewhere. It proudly went up in my apartment when we got back home and it still makes me laugh whenever I see it.

Our Vows

We currently are working on writing our vows. We want to make promises to each other about our life together in the future. Of course Angie has been very serious with these while I've been throwing out a bunch of goofy promises such as...

  • I promise I will never change my name to Ramon.
  • I promise to never make you dance with me to the song "True" by Spandau Ballet.
  • I promise to continue to share my love of ridiculous redneck events like the Combine Demolition Derby (pictured above).
  • I promise to never name our child Truman.
  • I promise that March Madness will never consume my ever waking moment (ok, I can't really promise that)
  • Ok...One serious one. I promise that I'll stop throwing out goofball vows.
